Famous French painter, graphic artist, illustrator. He was born in Paris. He got elementary art education under the guidance of his father, artist J.-P. Laurens. He studied at the Paris School of Fine Arts under the guidance of F. Cormon and B. Constant. In 1891 was awarded the Small Rome Prize - one of the most prestigious French awards in the  arts. In 1893 - 1929 was the exponent of salons of National Society of Fine Arts and the Society of French Artists (member - from 1899). Got medals at the Salons of 1893, 1897 and 1900. In 1893 - 1894 traveled to Algeria and Tunisia with his friend, the famous French writer A. Gide. In 1910 became a Knight of the Legion of Honor. In 1919 - 1934 was the Professor of Drawing at the Polytechnic School in Paris. Member of the Paris Academy of Arts since 1933. He lived and worked in Paris. He painted portraits, nudes, landscapes, allegorical compositions and secular scenes. He created a series of illustrations for the works of  A. Franse., E. Rostand, A. Gide etc. Works are kept in the Louvre, d'Orsay Museum, the Museum Petit Palais, the Luxembourg Museum (all - Paris), the Museum of the monastery Brou in Bourg-en-Bresse, the Museum of Fine Arts in Dijon, the Museum of the old castle in the town of Laval (all - France ).
