A Ukrainian theater artist. Born in the village of Viktorfeld, Rostov region. In 1937 he graduated from Rostov Art School, in 1956 Р from the Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. From 1946 till 1954 he worked in Chelyabinsk Theater of Drama, during 1955 - 1965 - in Leningrad theaters, since 1962 - in Kiev Theater named after I. Franko. Participant of the republican, all-union and international exhibitions, world exhibitions of "Prague Quadriennale". Winner of the USSR State Prize (1952). Member of the USSR Artists' Union since 1962. Honored Artist of the USSR since 1972. Since 1973 he taught at Kyiv Institute of Art, was at the head of the workshop of theater and decorative arts. Since 1992 - professor. People's Artist of USSR since 1985. The prominent Ukrainian stage designer. The performances, designed by the artist ("Yaroslav the Wise", "The Cherry Orchard", "Uncle Vanya", "Tevye-Tevel" etc.) became classics of Ukrainian theater.   His works are kept in the Moscow Theatre Museum named after A. Bakhrushyn, the State Museum of Theater, Music and Cinema of Ukraine, St. Petersburg State Museum of Theatrical and Musical Arts.
