Outstanding Russian graphic artist, scenographer, painter. Born in Pavlovsk, near St. Petersburg, in the family of sculptor Lanceray. He is the brother of the artist Z. Serebryakova. Outstanding Russian graphic artist, scenographer, painter. Born in Pavlovsk, near St. Petersburg, in the family of sculptor Lanceray. He is the brother of the artist Z. Serebryakova. In 1892 -1895 he studied at the Drawing School of the Imperial Society for the Encouragement of Arts, in 1895 - 1898 - at the Paris School of Fine Arts and the Academies Colarossi and Julian in Paris. Worked much in the field of magazine and book graphics. Since 1899 designed the magazine "World of Art". Since 1900 one of the most active members and exhibitors of the "World of Art" association. In 1906 -1907 participated in the exhibition of Russian art, organized by Diaghilev in Paris and Berlin. In 1907-1911 designed scenery and costumes for performances of Ancient Theater in St. Petersburg. In 1912 - 1914 created the illustrations for the L. Tolstoy's novel  "Hadji Murad", wherefore made a trip to Dagestan and Chechnya. In 1912 was elected an academician, in 1916 - a full member of the Academy of Arts. Solo exhibitions were held in Petrograd (1915), Yerevan (1926), Baku and Tiflis (both - 1927), Moscow (1936). In 1920 he moved to Tiflis. Since 1922 he taught at the Tiflis Academy of Arts. In 1933 was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the Georgian SSR. Since 1934 he lived in Moscow, where he headed the Department of Graphic Disciplines at the Moscow Architectural Institute and led the Studio of Monumental Painting in the Russian National Academy of Arts. Since 1945, the National Artist of the USSR. Retrospective exhibitions were held in Kazan (1947), Tbilisi (1956), Moscow (1961), Leningrad (1975). His works are presented in the State Tretyakov Gallery, State Russian Museum, State Museum of Fine Arts named after Pushkin in Moscow and many other museums in Russia and Europe.
