A Russian painter, graphic artist, master of religious genre. Military engineer - colonel. Born in the family of priest in Morshanskyy district, Tambov province. Nephew of the Metropolitan of Kyiv and Galicia Volodymyr priest-martyr Volodymyr Bogoyavlenskyy. In the 1880s he was an auditor of Petersburg Academy of Arts. He graduated from Mykolayiv Military and Engineering School and the topographical department of the General Staff Academy. He painted without leaving his military service. He was fond of ecclesiastical architecture, which he tried to save in his drawings. He took part in the Russian-Japanese War and in the First World War, for the military service he received numerous awards, including the Order of St. Volodymyr, St. Anne and St. Stanislav. Working in Ordnance Survey of the General Staff and traveling across Russia a lot, he performed the great number of easel, watercolor and pencil drawings of famous ancient Russian monasteries, temples and small secluded monasteries; in addition he painted Sergievskaya Trinity Lavra, Optin desert, Danyliv monastery, Svyato - Oleksiyivskyy temple, Voznesenskyy Davyd Desert and others. He emigrated in 1919 and in 1920 he professed in St. Panteleimon monastery on the Holy Mount of Athos in Greece, where he continued to paint his outstanding monuments of the Orthodox church architecture till the end of his life.
