Lavroff George, 1895 – 1991

Russian sculptor, known representative of the Art Deco style. Born in the village of Nazimovo, Yenisei Province (now Krasnoyarsk Krai). In 1911 - 1915 he studied at the Krasnoyarsk School of Art under the guidance of D. Karatanov and A. Popov,  in 1915 - 1918 - in the classrooms of drawing and painting of the Tomsk Society of Art Lovers . In 1923 went to Moscow, where he worked with V. Mayakovsky in the union "Windows of RUSTA" ("Okna ROSTA"). Then started to be engaged sculpture. With the assistance of A. Lunacharsky received foreign travel to Paris to improve skills. In 1927 - 1932 he lived and worked in Paris under the guidance of students of A. Rodin - A. Bouchard, P. Lavandovsky and E.A. Bourdelle. With great success exhibited sculptures at salons, where his works were purchased for museum collections. In 1935 he returned to the Soviet Union, was arrested and exiled in Magadan. After rehabilitation in 1954 he returned to Moscow. Honored Artist of the RSFSR since 1985. The author of works in the Art Deco style and monumental sculptures in Moscow, Krasnoyarsk, Magadan, Mariupol. Works are kept in the State Central Theater Museum named after A. Bakhrushin in Moscow, Municipal Museum of History and Art in Saint-Denis, the British Museum in London, Museum of the city of Montreux others.
