A Russian painter, graphic artist and theatrical worker. Born in Smolensk. He received his elementary art education in the studio of V. Mushketov in Smolensk (1908). In 1910 he moved to Riga, in 1912 Р to Moscow. He studied at the Central School of Arts and Crafts (1912 - 1917), attended the studios of I. Mashkov and F. Rerberg (1916) and the Public free art workshop (1917), where he studied under the guidance of P. Konchalovskyy. After the Civil War he continued his education at the Higher state artistic and technical workshops (1922 - 1924) under the guidance of D. Shterenberg. He started taking part in the exhibitions since 1921. One of the leaders and founders of the Company of easel creators (1925). He was a member of the artistic group Culture-League in Moscow (1922 - 1924). In 1934 he worked as a designer in the State Jewish Theater. He participated in the design of the exhibitions, pavilions and public facilities, performing sketches of panoramas and dioramas. From 1941 till 1945 he lived and worked in Tashkent. He was engaged in easel painting, book graphic illustration, teaching. His works are stored in the State Russian Museum, the State Tretyakov Gallery and in many other museums.
