Zalyvakha Opanas Ivanovych, 1925 - 2007

A Ukrainian painter, graphic artist and public figure. Born in the village of Gusynka, Kharkiv region. He studied in the Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after I. A Ukrainian painter, graphic artist and public figure. Born in the village of Gusynka, Kharkiv region. He studied in the Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after I. Repin (1947 - 1960, with breaks). From 1960 till 1961 Р the artist of Tyumen Arts Foundation, and since 1961 Р of Ivano-Frankivsk Arts Foundation. During 1963 - 1964 together with A. A. Gorskayay, L. Semykina, G. Zubchenko and G.Sevruk he performed the triptych of stained glass "Taras Shevchenko" for Kyiv University. After the destruction of the stained glass as a "nationalistic one" he was expelled from the the Union of artists of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, in 1965 he was sentenced on charges of anti-Soviet propaganda and agitation. During the searches the most part of the artist's works was destroyed. In 1970 he returned to Ivano-Frankivsk, continued to work in the field of easel painting, linocut, book graphics. He collaborated with such publishers as ТVeselkaУ ("Rainbow") and ТKamenyarУ ("Mason"), designed the book "Palimpsest" by V. Stus and "The prodigal sons of Ukraine" by E. Sverstiuk. Winner of V. StusХs Prize (1989), of T. ShevchenkoХs National Prize. (1995). Honored Artist of Ukraine since 1999. In 1988 he held solo exhibitions in the NLM and in the cathedral museum in Ivano-Frankivsk, in 1989 - the National Museum of T. Shevchenko in Kyiv, then - in Toronto, London, New York. In 2003 in the publishing house ТSmoloskypУ ("Torch") the first album of the artist's works was released.
