A Russian painter and graphic artist, master of portrait genre. Born in Moscow in the family of Moscow University professor. In the early 1840s he took private lessons from S. Zaryanka. In the years of 1849 and 1853 - 1854 as an auditor he attended classes at St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, where he studied under the guidance of A. Markov. In 1858 for the painting "The girl, that is washing her face" he was awarded the title of the academician. He lived and worked in St. Petersburg. He painted portraits, as well as "women's heads". During 1854 - 1877 he was a regular participant of the annual exhibitions in the Academy of Arts, as well as the exhibitions of the Society for the Promotion of Artists (1862 - 1878, with breaks), and of the Society of exhibitions of works of art (1876 - 1877). His works are presented in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum and other museum collections, as well as in private collections.
