Couture, during 1853 - 1863 Р in the Workshop of St. Luke in Brussels, where he made friends with the like-minded people Р the famous artists F. Rops and C. Meunier in the future. In 1851 he debuted at the Paris Salon, where he met the famous "father" of the French Realism G. Courbet. He exhibited his works in Brussels salons (1857, 1860, 1863). In 1868 he became one of the founders of the Free Union of Fine Arts in Brussels, which called for fighting with the outdated canons of art and claimed the relevance of realism. He painted portraits, landscapes and still lives. His works are presented in the Royal Museum of Fine Arts of Belgium in Brussels, in Haarlem Museum of F. Hals and in many Art Museums in France.
