A Spanish painter, graphic artist, sculptor, writer and director. One of the most famous representatives of surrealism. Born in Figueres, Spain. He began painting in early childhood under the guidance of J. Nuñez. His first exhibition was held in 1919 in the Municipal Theatre in Figueres. From 1922 till 1926 (with breaks) he studied at Madrid Academy of Arts. In 1926 he moved to Paris. Longing to find his own style, he carried out experiments with methods of cubism and dadaism. In 1929 he joined a group of surrealists, organized by A. Breton. In 1930s the master’s works were shown at numerous international exhibitions and brought worldwide fame to the author. In 1969 - 1972 he created a series of surreal sculptures, which were made of bronze in 1973. His works are kept in the greatest museums of Europe and the USA. There are several museums of S. Dali - in Figueres, Cleveland and Paris.
