In 1910 he emigrated from Russia and lived for several years in Cairo, where he painted genre scenes and landscapes of the Egyptian cities. These works brought the artist high recognition in Europe that had been fond of Orientalism. In 1916 he moved to the Netherlands, to the homeland of his favorite artist V. Van Gogh. In Amsterdam he held several solo exhibitions. Within 1918 - 1923 he traveled about Indonesia. In 1923 he settled in the American state of Pennsylvania and received the U.S. citizenship. He lived a rich creative life, enjoyed success and recognition, participated in numerous group exhibitions (including those with D. Burlyuk) and arranged a big solo exhibition in 1925.
