Polish and Ukrainian painter and graphic artist. He studied at Warsaw Drawing School (1869 - 1873) under the guidance of W. Gerson in Munich Academy of Arts (1876 - 1877) and Krakow School Fine Arts (1877 - 1878) under the teaching of J. Matejko. In 1878, he went to Paris. In 1880 he traveled around Galicia and Zakarpattya and during 1883 - 1893 lived in Ukraine. Since 1895, he taught at Krakow Academy of Arts (one of the disciples and followers of the artist was I. Trush) and since 1934 he taught at Warsaw Academy of Arts. The author of painted and graphic portraits, landscapes, still lifes, genre scenes based on the life of Polish and Ukrainian peasants. His watercolors and lithographs with soft gradations of light and shadow played an important role in the development of the Polish graphics of the twentieth century. Most of the works are stored in Warsaw and Krakow Art Museums.
