Vogelar Karel, 1653 – 1695

A Dutch artist. Born in Maastricht, the Netherlands. Between 1671 and 1675 he moved to Rome where he studied in the studio of the famous artist K. Marat. In Italy he worked under the name of Carlo de Fiori. In 1683 he visited France (Lyon, Paris) and Malta. He lived and worked in Rome. He entirely painted the still lives with flowers and fruit. ...

In the Netherlands he was nicknamed Distelbloem (the thistle). His works are kept in the Borghese Gallery in Rome, the Royal Gallery Mauritshuis in the Hague, the National Museum of Sweden in Stockholm, in the Liechtenstein Gallery in Vienna and in other Art Museims of the Netherlands, Italy and France.
