A Ukrainian painter, master of portrait and genre painting. He was born in Ternopil, Ukraine. In the years of 1904 – 1909 he studied at Krakow Academy of Arts. As a student he received recognition for his work at an art exhibition in 1907. He intensified his knowledge first in Vienna and later in the studio of the famous painter J. Brandt. He lived in Italy, then in Zakarpattya – first in the town of Beregovo, and then he moved to Uzhgorod (1929). In Zakarpattya he combined teaching with art activities. He was also engaged in church wall painting and painted the Church of St. Michael the Archangel in the village of Tovste in the Ternopil region. In 1942, he went to Germany, lived and worked in the town of Plattinh in Bavaria. His art carrier was interrupted by two wars and many of his works were lost without leaving a trace. However, the part of the artist's heritage has been preserved. His works are stored in the Art Museum of Lviv, Prague, Munich and Ternopil. The memorial exhibitions were held in New York and Philadelphia in 1974. In July 2007, in a jubilee exhibition dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the artist was held in the National Museum of Lviv.
