Russian painter and graphic artist. Born in Kazan. He studied at the Naval School in St. Petersburg, in 1879 - 1880 - at the Naval Academy Nicholas in St. Petersburg. In 1883 - 1885 made circumnavigation. In 1894 - 1898 he studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts under the guidance of A. Kuindzhi and I. Shishkin. Exhibited his works at the Spring exhibitions in the halls of the Academy of Arts (1898 - 1916), Peredvizhniki, 1st public free exhibition of works of art (1919) and others. In 1899 got the title of artist. In 1905 received the award at the competition of H. Kuindzhi. Member and exhibitor of associations: North circle of fans of Fine Arts in Vologda (1909), the Society of Artists (1910, 1916), the Society of Artists named after H. Kuindzhi (1918, 1926). He taught at the Leningrad Higher Artistic and Technical Institut (1922 - 1929), professor since 1924. Major General of the fleet since 1913. Teacher of Marine Cadet Corps, the Head of the courses of cadets (1915 - 1917). Lived and worked in St. Petersburg. He painted landscapes, marines and battle paintings. The works are presented in State Russian Museum, the Central Naval Museum in St. Petersburg, Kharkov and Krasnodar Art Museums and many others.
