A Russian stage designer and landscape painter. A German by birth. In the years of 1852 - 1855 he worked as a decorator in Riga, and then Р for a short while in Tallinn. In the years of 1856 Р 1862 he became a decorative artist at the Directorate of Moscow Imperial Theatres and during 1860 Р 1871 he was a decorative artist of St. Petersburg Imperial Theatres. He made scenery design of a lot of famous performances at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow (the ballet "Sylfyda"), Mariinsky Theatre (the opera "Ruslan and Lyudmila","Life for the Tsar"). The sketches of the scenery design were published in the "Album to the opera" Life for the Tsar "(Petersburg, 1863). He was the follower of the famous theatre artist A. Roller. In his theatrical scene design, he created the spectacular stage pictures, which had repeatedly been marked by the Russian critic V. Stasov. In 1868, he entered St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. At the academic exhibitions, he exhibited his landscapes "The Schvanheim Forest nearby Frankfurt-on-the-Main", "View in the mountains of Taunus", "Ruins of the fortress "Kennihsshtein","Houses in Pargolovo"," Russian village", etc. Travelled a lot, painted landscapes and urban scenes of Germany, Latvia and Russia.
