Bogomazov Alexander Konstyantynovych, 1880 - 1930

One of the leaders of the Ukrainian avant-garde, painter, graphic artist, art theorist. Born in the village of Yampil, Kharkiv province. During 1902 - 1905 and 1907 - 1911 he studied at the Art School under the guidance of M. Pimonenko, O. Murashko. From 1905 till 1906 he attended the workshop of S. Svitoslavskyy in Kyiv. In the years of 1906 – 1907, he painted in the private studios of F. Rerberg and K. Yuon in Moscow. He participated in the exhibitions of the Union of Russian Artists and Moscow Society of independent artists. The creative search of the master intertwined with the ideas of Moscow Kubofuturists and the Italian Futurists. In 1911, he traveled to Finland as a correspondent of the newspaper "Kyiv opinion". From 1912 till 1915 he taught at the school for the deaf in Kyiv. In 1914, together with O. Exter, he organized the artistic association "The Ring" (Kyiv). The same year he completed the theoretical work "The Art and the Elements," where he dwelled upon his own artistic concept. In 1915, he moved to the North Caucasus, where he continued painting and teaching. In 1917, he returned to Kyiv. During 1917 – 1922, he taught art courses at different schools. From 1919 till 1920 he was engaged in agitation and mass art, served as head of the Department of Art Education of the Ukrainian Committee of Fine Arts. In the years of 1922 – 1930, he was a professor of Kyiv Institute of Art. Since 1926, he was a member of the Association of Revolutionary Art of Ukraine. His works are stored in the State Russian Museum, the National Art Museum, in the Art Museums of Zaporizhia, Sumy, etc.
