A Russian painter. Born in St. Petersburg. In the years of 1870 – 1879, he studied at St. Petersburg Academy of Arts and received small and large silver medals (1874, 1877). In 1879 was awarded the title of a class artist of the 3rd degree, in 1882 - the title of a class artist of the 1st degree and the right for a pensioner’s trip abroad. In the years of 1882 – 1884 he was a pensioner of the Academy in Germany, France and Italy. Upon his return, he lived in St. Petersburg. Participated in academic exhibitions (since 1881), in the art events of the Association of Itinerant Art Exhibitions (1880 - 1889, with interruptions), and all-Russian Art and Industrial Exhibition in Moscow (1882). The memorial exhibition was held in Odessa in 1894. He had become widely famous as a master of genre painting. The works are presented in the State Russian Museum, the State Tretyakov Gallery, and in the art museums of Irkutsk, Krasnodar, Penza, Nyzhnyi Novgorod, Chelyabinsk Picture Gallery, etc.
