A Ukrainian artist. Born in Tyraspil. In the years of 1886 – 1893, he studied under the tutelage of K. Kostandi, G. Ladyzhenskyi and O. Popov at Odessa Art School belonging to Odessa Association of Fine Arts named after the Grand Duke Volodymyr Olexandrovych, and during 1894 - 1899 - at St. Petersburg Academy of Arts under the guidance of M. Kuznetsov, P. Kovalevskyi, and I. Repin. In 1899, he got the title of an artist. Since 1892, he exhibited his works at the Academy of Arts, Association of Itinerant Art Exhibitions, Association of South-Russia Artists and Petersburg ArtistsХ Association. Participant of the 1st Peoples exhibition in Odessa (1919). Opened an art school-studio in Odessa (1907 - 1928). Teacher at Odessa Art Institute (1930 Р 1935 and its professor Р since 1933), then he taught at Odessa Art School (1934 - 1941). The Honored Arts Worker of the UkrSSR since 1941. The same year he was evacuated to Sverdlovsk (now Yekaterynburg), where remained until his death. He taught at the Ural Polytechnic Institute. His solo exhibitions were held in Odessa (1935, 1940) and Sverdlovsk (1949). The works are stored in the NAMU and the art museums of Odessa, Kharkiv, Krasnodar, Nyzhniy Taghil, and Yekaterynburg.
