A Russian artist, painter, graphic artist and set designer. Born in St. Petersburg in the family of the academician of architecture L. Benois. A niece of the artists: A. Benois and O. Benois, and the mother of the famous American actor, director and playwright P. Ustinov. Since 1914 she had been studying at New Art Studio under the tutelage of O. Yakovlev and V. Shukhayev, and in the years of 1918 – 1920at the State Higher Art Studios under the guidance of V. Shukhayev, D. Kardovskyi and B. Popov. In 1920 together with her husband she moved to London, where she later became much better known than in Russia. She painted the landscapes of Wales, Scotland, Ireland, France and Italy. The first solo exhibition was held in 1924 in the Little Art Rooms Gallery in London and starting 1929 she permanently held her solo exhibitions and participated in group art exhibitions in London. In 1933, turned to stage design, and worked for the Mercury theatre, was a set designer of the ballets "Dark Elegies" to Gustav MahlerХs music for the Rambert Ballet,Sleeping Beauty" by P. Tchaikovsky for Sadler `s Wells Ballet, designed a number of films and performances staged by her son. Her works are stored in the collections of the Tate Gallery in London, the Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh, the National Gallery of New Zealand, and in the Museum of Benois Family in Peterhof.
