A famous Dutch painter of Italian descent. Born in Lombardy, Italy. In 1519 through Sehedio (Spain) came to Brugge having the reputation of a brilliant portraitist and painter of the altar images. He worked in the art studio of G. David and inherited the painting traditions of the latter. Was a member of the St. Luke's Guild of Painters and headed it in 1537. Throughout the years was the most famous painter in Brugge. He painted mainly religious compositions, female figures and portraits. His works are kept in the leading museums of the world, including  the Hermitage, the London National Gallery, the Metropolitan Museum in New York, Museum del Prado and Museum Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid.
