Polish, French and American painter. Born in Warsaw, she had been living in Saint Petersburg since 1910. After 1918 she immigrated to Paris. She studied at workshop of M. Denis, and later - A. Lhote. She painted portraits, nudes and still-life paintings. She developed her own manner, which combined stylistics of Florentine Mannerism, Art deco and Cubism. Since 1922 she had been exhibiting her works at the Autumn Salon and the Salon of the Independent ones. In 1925 she participated in Decorative Arts Exhibition in Paris, after which she became very fashionable and successful painter, a favorite of the high society. In 1939 she immigrated to the USA. In 1962 and 1964 there were held big retrospective exhibition of her works in New York and Paris. In 1978 she moved to Mexico. Interest to early works of Lempicka was rekindled in the late 1970s, and in the 1990s she again became a stylistic idol. In 1920- 1930s her works were perceived as a symbol of "the Golden Age": characters of her paintings wore art deco clothes, lived in houses built, furnished and decorated by accessories in art deco style. Retrospective exhibitions of painter's works are held in the biggest museums of the world almost every year. Her works are kept in various art museums of the world and in private collections; in particular, famous collectors of Lempicka's works are Jack Nicholson and Barbra Streisand.
