A Russian marine painter and watercolorist. Born in St. Petersburg. In the years of 1853 - 1863, he studied at Nicholas Engineering and Marine Engineering and Artillery School in St. Petersburg. In 1863, he joined the Imperial Baltic Fleet. Before 1870, he had been in charge of the Admiralty drawing workshop. During 1871 - 1872 he accompanied the Grand Duke Olexii Olexandrovych in his world tour. From 1870 to 1873 he studied at St. Petersburg Academy of Arts in a landscape class of Professor M. Klodt as an auditor. In 1874, he retired and moved to Paris, where he continued studying under the tutelage of A. Bogolyubov and a French artist L. Bonn. In 1875, he returned to Russia and since 1876 he had become a member of the Association of Itinerant Art Exhibitions. In 1878, he was appointed the Artist of the Naval Ministry, where he had worked until his dying day. In 1885 became a co-founding member of the Association of Russian Watercolorists. In 1899, he was awarded the title of an academician and in 1912 Р the title of the honorary member of Petersburg Academy of Arts. The works were exhibited at the World Exhibitions in Vienna (1873) and in Paris (1878, 1900). In 1878, for the painting "The View of the Neva River and Strelka District of the Vasilievskyi Island from the Stock Exchange" has received the top award at the World Exhibition in Paris. His works are stored in the Hermitage, the State Museum of Russian Art, the State Tretyakov Gallery and in many others.
