In 1927 he moved to Paris, where he joined the elite of French literature and art. His friends were P. Éluard, R. Desnos, J. Prévert, J. - L. Barrault and other. French painter, scene painter, illustrator, designer. One of the most famous French surrealists. Born in Marchiennes (France). In 1927 he moved to Paris, where he joined the elite of French literature and art. His friends were P. Éluard, R. Desnos, J. Prévert, J. - L. Barrault and other. In 1935 he joined a group of surrealists - P. Delvaux, M. Ernst, A. Mason, R. Magritte. Since 1943 he had been working as scene-designer and created decorations for "The Trial" by F. Kafka, which was adapted for stage by famous French director J. - L. Barrault. He had been exhibiting his works at Paris salons since 1944. In 1966 he became an Academician of Academy of Fine Arts (Paris). In 1973 there was held a big retrospective exhibition of works in museum Van Beuningen Boijmans in Rotterdam (the Netherlands). His works are kept at the Art Museum of France, Belgium and in many private collections.
