Jewish graphic artist and artist in the field of arts and crafts. Born in Rogachev, Mogilev Region. He studied at Higher Art and Technical Institute under the guidance of G. Vereysky and A. Rylov (1921 - 1927). He performed his diploma work under the guidance of K. Petrov-Vodkin. In the late 1920s he worked in the field of applied art drawing and as layout artist. Participant of exhibitions since 1939. In 1937 - 1940 he was engaged in lithography at an experimental workshop at Leningrad division of the Artists' Union under the guidance of G. Vereysky. He illustrated and designed books for publishing house "Sovetsky Pisatel (Soviet Writer)". Works of the artist were closely related to Jewish folklore and literature, he painted illustrations for works of many Jewish writers, including classics of literature, and also for Jewish folk songs. He worked as the chief artist of Leingrad Glass Factory (1950 - 1951). Since the late 1960s he had been working with ceramics. His works shown at exhibitions in the USA, France, Italy, Germany, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Canada and other countries. Solo exhibitions were held in Leningrad (1957), London (1961, 1962), New York (1961, 1967), Paris (1963), Padua (1971). His works are kept at State Tretyakov Gallery, State Russian Museum, Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, State Museum of Arts of Kazakhstan, Kharkiv Art Museum and in other museums and private collections.
