Baturin Victor Pavlovich, 1863 - 1938

A Russian painter and theatre artist. Born in the village of Stanove, Tula province. He received an elementary art education in the real school in  Orel in the settlement Nekrasov. In the years of 1882 - 1888 he studied at Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture and was taught by I. Pryanishnikov, V.Polenov and V. Makovsky. In 1888, he worked in Poltava under the guidance of Miasoyedov. He was a member and exhibitor of Moscow Society of Art Lovers, Society of artworks exhibitions, and of Petersburg union of artists. From 1888 till 1915 he lived in Moscow and served as a decorator of the Bolshoi Theatre (1888 - 1900). He worked as a master of drawing in the weaving factory of O. Polyakov (1911 - 1914) and gave lessons in private schools (until 1911). He was engaged in painting churches and private estates. In the summer months, he went to draw sketches to Ukraine, to the Caucasus, in Palanga, Smolensk, Tula and other provinces. During 1919 - 1930 he lived in Pavlodar, where he was at the head of the art studio and taught in schools. He wrote landscapes, still lives, pictures of everyday life with the tide of realistic traditions of the Itinerants. His works are presented in the State Tretyakov Gallery, Samara Art Museum and many other museums of Russia.
