Austrian artist. Born in the Ederhov estate, Tirol. Primary art education got under the guidance of sculptor M. Stolz in Innsbruck. In 1864 - 1870 studied at the Royal School of Crafts (Munich) and the Munich Academy of Arts under the guidance of Piloty K., Dick H., Anschutz K. He studied museum collections and acquainted with art workshops in Paris. Lived in Munich. In 1878 became a professor of historical painting. He taught at the Munich Academy of Arts (1878 - 1910). In 1883 received a knighthood. Conducted active exhibition activities and was awarded numerous awards and prizes. A well-known representative of the Munich school of paintings. He painted portraits, genre scenes from the life of Tyrolean farmers. His works are kept in the Leipzig Museum of Fine Arts, the National Gallery in Berlin, New Pinakothek in Munich, Hermitage and others.
