During 1866 - 1893 he was a regular exhibitor of London Academy of arts, the Society of Fine Arts in London, of Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool, Manchester Art Gallery, etc. Since 1883 - honorary member of London Academy of Arts. He entered the history of the British art as an excellent animal painter and a master of genre painting. He gained his particular popularity for the motifs featuring children and pets. He painted on the order of the royal court, made portraits of the royalty. The artist’s canvases were repeatedly reproduced in print and in the works of easel graphics. His works are presented in the Royal Collection of Great Britain, Lady Lever’s Art Gallery in Port Sunlight, in the New Art Gallery in Walsall, etc.
