A German painter. Student of Berlin Academy of Arts, who continued his art education in the trips on the Rhine, in the Netherlands, France and England. In 1822 he returned to Berlin and for some time he was a teacher in the Academy of Arts, where in 1840 he was promoted to the professor. In 1841 he studied painting on the glass in Munich, in 1847 he went to St. Petersburg, where he lived for a long time, painting the scenes of Russian soldiersХ life. The majority of these works adorn the walls of the imperial palaces now. His works are also kept in Berlin National Gallery, in the museums of Weimar, K_nigsberg and in other collections.
