A prominent Russian artist. Born in St. Petersburg in the family of the artist M. Schilder. In 1877 he attended the workshop of I. Shishkin and participated in joint creative trips to the Crimea, Belovezhskaya Pushcha, to Valamo. As an auditor of Petersburg Academy of Arts (1878 - 1883) he received two awards and a small silver medal for landscapes. He participated in the exhibitions of the Academy of Arts, the Society for the Promotion of Artists and the Association of Traveling Art Exhibitions (since 1894 a member of the association). In 1880 he received the 1st award of the Society for the Promotion of Artists for a landscape. He gained wide popularity after the creation of two large panoramas for the Russian exhibition in Nizhny Novgorod (1896) and the World Exhibition in Paris (1904). "For the fame in the art field" he was awarded the title of the academician of landscape painting. In 1903 he was engaged in the technique of etching, exhibited printed graphics at the first exhibition of Blanc et Noir in St. Petersburg. He published drawings and reproductions of the paintings in such magazines as "Sever" (ТThe NorthУ), "Zhyvopysnoe ObozrenieУ (ТPicturesque Review"), "Vsemyrnaya illyustrazia" (ТThe World IllustrationУ), ТLastochkaУ ("Swallow"), ТNovХУ ("Virgin SoilУ),"ArtistУ ("The Artist"). He worked on stage designing for theater productions in Petersburg. He continued to work in the field of monumental and decorative (panoramic) painting. His works are stored in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, in the museums of Astrakhan, Kursk, Nizhny Novgorod, Taganrog, Rostov, Yaroslavl, Kostroma, Arkhangelsk, Zaporizhzhya and in many other art museums of Russia and Ukraine.
