A Ukrainian and Russian painter. He was born in Balta, Odessa region. In 1904 he took private drawing lessons. In 1908 he entered Odessa Art School, then studied at the battle class of Petersburg Academy of Arts under the guidance of M. Samokysh. In 1914 he volunteered for the front. He began service as a private, ended the war with the rank of cornet of the 10th Uhlan Regiment of Odessa. He made sketches of the war scenes and military life. In 1920 with the parts of the White Army he was evacuated to Gallipoli (Turkey), then - to the Kingdom of SCS (Serbs, Croats and Slovenes). He gained popularity as a painter of battles. He often painted the landscapes of the Russian steppe with horses and hunting scenes. In 1930 he participated in the Great Exhibition of the Russian Art in Belgrade. In 1941 he entered the Russian corps (in the Wehrmacht), with the parts of the corps he came to Germany. Since 1945 he lived in Starnberg, near Munich. In 1962 in Munich he held the exhibition devoted to the 150th anniversary of the 1812war, as well as several solo exhibitions (1972, 1978, 1979). His works are kept in the museums in Yugoslavia, Germany and the USA.
