Fluggen, then - in Munich Academy of Arts under the guidance of C. Piloty. After studying he made the trips to train painting in Paris, London, Brussels and Antwerp. He started his career as a historical painter. Later he became interested in illustrating the literary works of German writers. The cooperation with Robert Wagner, whose plays he designed, brought the great success to the master. Later he was engaged in designing other theatrical productions (mostly of historical content). In the 1890s he painted landscapes and group portraits of wealthy families. In 1903 he began working on a large project "The history of costume of all time."
