A German painter. From 1888 till 1897 he studied at Dusseldorf Academy of Arts under the guidance of P. Janssen. He painted human figures and horses in the grand panorama (15x200 m) for the Industrial Exhibition in Dusseldorf (1902). Being represented at the exhibition in Berlin in 1913, the panorama had sensational success and brought fame to the master. He was a member of the Union of artists called ТThe sketchbook"(1896 - 1906), the society called "Union" (1899), Berlin union of painters (1906 - 1920). Professor of Berlin Academy of Arts. By 1917 he owned a mansion in the Kherson province ("Askania Nova"), which he visited quite often and created there over 50 paintings depicting hunting in the plains of Tavria. In 1920 he made a trip to the East Africa. He lived and worked mainly in Berlin and D_sseldorf. He became famous as a great animal painter, author of hunting, war and historical scenes. His works are kept in Sevastopol Art Museum, Dusseldorf City Museum and in other museums of Ukraine, Russia and Germany.
