A famous Russian painter, one of the founders of the Mordvin professional fine art. Born in the village of Kochalayevo, Penza Province (Mordovia). He started painting since childhood, he worked in the Artel of the icon painters, later he painted portraits of the wealthy countrymen. He studied at the drawing school of the Society for the Promotion of Artists in St. Petersburg, where he completed a 6-year course of study for 3 years (1892 - 1895) and in the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg (1895 - 1900) under the guidance of I. Repin. In 1900 he was promoted to the title of the artist for the painting "Letter from the war." Since 1905 permanent participant of the exhibitions of St. Petersburg Academy of Arts and St. Petersburg Union of artists. Honored Artist of Mordovska Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic and the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic, People's Artist of Mordovia, awarded with the Order "Symbol of Honor". The main theme of his creative work is the life of the Mordvin and the Russian countryside. His works are stored in the collections of the State Russian Museum, Mordovia Art Gallery of F. Sychkov, Mordovia republic Museum of Fine Arts of S. Erzi.
