A Ukrainian and Polish painter, graphic artist, famous master of the portrait. Born in the village of Tovtry, Chernivtsy region. From 1876 till 1879 he studied in Vienna Academy of Arts under the guidance of K. Gripenkerl and A. Eisenmengerin. In 1883 he successfully debuted at the exhibition of the union of the friends of Fine Arts in Krakow. In 1887 he was promoted to the professor. Author of two books on drawing, published in Lviv in 1894 and 1898. Talented and experienced teacher, the first teacher of O. Kulchytska and other famous artists. Since 1900s he was a member of the Society "Young Art" in Lviv. He participated in the ceiling painting of Lviv Theatre of Opera and Ballet. Participant of Autumn exhibition of the Society of Fine Arts in Lviv (1925) and of the Provincial Exhibition in  Pozna_ (small gold medal, 1928). The Polish government appreciated the achievements of the master with the Order of the Iron Crown of the 3rd degree (1911). In 1932 there was a large memorial exhibition in Lviv Palace of Arts. His works are presented in Lviv National Gallery of Art, Krak_w Art Museum, etc.
