Sokolov Mykola Olxandrovych, 1903 - 1991

A Russian artist. Born in the village of Tsaritsyne, Russia. In 1920 he with his family moved to Rybynsk (Yaroslavl region). He studied at the art studio of Proletkult in Rybynsk (1920 - 1923) under the guidance of M. Shcheglov, in the Higher state artistic and technical workshops and in the the Higher Art and Technical Institute (1923 - 1929) ...

A Russian artist. Born in the village of Tsaritsyne, Russia. In 1920 he with his family moved to Rybynsk (Yaroslavl region). He studied at the art studio of Proletkult in Rybynsk (1920 - 1923) under the guidance of M. Shcheglov, in the Higher state artistic and technical workshops and in the the Higher Art and Technical Institute (1923 - 1929) under the guidance of M. Kupriyanov, P. Miturych, P. Lvova. Since 1924 together with M. Kupriyanov and P. Krylov he was a member of the famous group "Kukryniksy". He participated in numerous art exhibitions since 1926. He was engaged in satirical graphics, political cartoons, posters, book illustrations. He collaborated with the leading Soviet newspapers and magazines. As a painter he worked in the fields of landscape, still life, portrait. Member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR since 1947, People's Artist of the USSR since 1958, Hero of Socialistic Labor since 1973. Winner of Lenin Prize (1965), of five Stalin Prizes (1942, 1947, 1949, 1950, 1951) and of the State Prize of the USSR (1975). His works are stored in many museum collections, particularly in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, etc.
