An outstanding Russian painter and graphic artist. She was born in the estate of Neskuchnoe, Kursk Province. She belongs to the famous dynasty of the artists – Lancer - Benoit. Since 1886 she lived in St. Petersburg, where she graduated from the female high school of Kolomna. In 1901 she attended the art school of princess M. Tenisheva, but not long. During 1902 - 1903 she lived in Italy. From 1903 till 1905 she studied in the studio of the famous portrait painter O. Braz in St. Petersburg. She copied the works of the old masters in the Hermitage. In the years of 1905 - 1906 she studied drawing and watercolour in the Academy de la Grande Chaumière in Paris. She studied and copied the drawings of A. Watteau, F. Mercier, H. Fragonard in Parisian museums. In 1906 she returned to Russia. In 1910 she debuted with the great success at the exhibition «Contemporary Female Portrait», a self-portrait of the artist «At the dressing table» was acquired by the State Tretyakov Gallery. The same year she took part in the VIIth exhibition of the Union of the Russian Artists. Since 1911 – a permanent exhibitor of «World of Art». During 1912 - 1913 she lived in Tsarskoye Selo near St. Petersburg. In 1914 she traveled to Italy and Switzerland. From 1918 till 1920 she lived in Kharkov and worked in the University Archaeological Museum. In 1920 she returned to Petrograd. In 1924 she emigrated to France and settled in Paris. In 1928 and 1932 she made trips to Morocco. Her solo exhibitions were held in Parisian galleries «Charpentier» (1927, 1930 - 1931, 1932, 1938), V. Ghirshman’s and Bernheim’s (both – in 1929). In 1931 in collaboration with D. Bouchain she held the exhibitions in Brussels and Antwerp. She participated in the exhibitions of the Russian art in the USA (1924 - 1925), Paris (1927, 1932), Brussels (1928), Berlin, Belgrade (both - 1930), Riga (1932), Prague (1935).Her large retrospective exhibitions were held in Moscow (1965, 1966, 1987), Leningrad and Kiev (both – in 1966). He painted portraits, landscapes and genre scenes. The artist's creative work can be attributed to the trend of neo-classicism in the Russian art. Her works are presented in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, the Pushkin Museum and in many other museums.
