In 1689 visited Rome, in 1690 - 1692 he lived in Vienna. In 1692 - 1693 he studied at the Venice Academy of Fine Arts. In 1693 continued his studies at the Royal Academy of St. Luke in Rome and joined the fraternity of "northern artists» - Schildersbent. In 1695 returned to Augsburg. He was famous as the author of paintings devoted to military issues and hunting scenes. He had many disciples, among them - his three sons, who became famous engravers, and A. Kverfurt - the famous German battle painter. The works are presented in the art museums of Vienna, Berlin, Dresden, Braunschweig, Stockholm, Cassel, Augsburg and others.
