Russian and Italian painter, graphic artist, miniaturist. Born in Riga. The first artistic skills gained under the supervision of his brother, the painter M. Rizzoni. In 1852 - 1863 he studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts in the class of battle painting under the guidance of Gottfried Willewalde. During the study received two silver (1857, 1858) and two gold medals (1860, 1862). In 1858 - 1860 traveled to Italy, France, Spain and Belgium. In 1863 - 1866 - Academy of Arts pensioner in France and Italy. Also visited Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Portugal. In 1865 - 1866 he exhibited his works at the Paris Salons. In 1866 returned to St. Petersburg, where he was awarded the title of Academician, and held a solo exhibition in Tsarskoe Selo. He participated in the exhibitions of Moscow Society of Art Lovers (member since 1867). He exhibited his works at the World Exhibitions in Paris (1867) and Vienna (1873). In 1868 received the title of professor. Since 1869 he lived permanently in Rome, periodically coming to Russia. In 1878 held a solo exhibition in St. Petersburg. Was a friend of Mr. Tretyakov,  helped him in the formation of the collection. He painted genre scenes, landscapes and portraits. Works are kept in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the National Gallery of Stuttgart and other museum collections in Russia and Europe.
