A Russian painter, landscape and genre painter. Born in the village of Georgivske, Yaroslavl province. He studied at St. Petersburg Academy of Arts (1872 - 1879). In 1875 he received two small silver medal, in 1876 - two large silver medals, in 1878 - a small gold medal, in 1879 Р a big gold and a gold medals. In 1881 he was sent abroad as a pensioner for 4 years. He worked in Rome together with I. Seleznyov and S. Bakalovych. In 1885 he received the title of the academician. From 1886 till 1917 he served as a director of Odessa Art School of the union of Fine Arts of the Grand Duke Volodymyr Olexandrovych. Founding member of the Society of southern Russian artists. He participated in the exhibitions of Petersburg Academy of arts, and of the Society of southern Russian artists. In 1896 in Odessa there was held an exhibition of the paintings by I. Levitan, V. Simov and O. Popov.
