One of the first Russian artists, illustrators, graphic artist, painter, master of arts and crafts. Born in St. Petersburg. The younger sister of the artist V. Polenov. She studied at the drawing school of the Society for the Promotion of Artists in St. Petersburg (1864 - 1880, with breaks) under the guidance of I. Kramskoy, then in Paris school-studio of C. Chapelain (1869 - 1870), in the private workshops of P. Chystyakov (1870 - 1877). In 1880 she worked in the studio of the ceramic artist O. Egorov in Paris. She participated in the exhibitions of the Association of Traveling Art Exhibitions and of "The World of Arts". Since 1882 she lived mainly in Moscow. From 1881 till 1882 she conducted a class in ceramics in the drawing school of the Society for the Promotion of Artists. Active participant of Abramtsevskyy artistic circle (since 1882), she made decorations for the performances of the private Russian opera of S. Mamontov (since 1885), led the joinery workshop in Abramtsevo. The artist's works are stored in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, in the museum-reserve "Abramtsevo", in the museums of Kostroma, Chelyabinsk, etc.
