A Russian painter, writer, ethnographer, storyteller. Born in Arkhangelsk. In 1902 he entered the Central School of Technical Drawing, where, besides the drawing, as one of the most talented students, studied painting under the guidance of Academician O. Novoskoltsev. For some time he studied in the Free Academy of Arts in Paris; from 1907 till 1910 - in St. Petersburg in the workshop of Y. Goldblat. Every summer, he visited the Russian North, completed two large series of works "The Northern Forest" and "The old huts". He exhibited his works in numerous exhibitions in St. Petersburg, Moscow, Berlin and Rome. In 1910 at the exhibition "The Russian North" in Arkhangelsk he exhibited more than 200 of his works, in 1911 at the Tsarskosilskyy anniversary exhibition he presented 60 works. In 1912 for participating in the exhibition "The North in pictures" he received the great silver medal. Probably, at one of these exhibitions he had a conversation with the artist I. Repin, who praised his work and invited him to "Penaty" for joint work. After 1918 he continuously lived and worked in Arkhangelsk, painted a lot and exhibited his works at the exhibitions, worked at the request of Moscow Museum of the Revolution and the State Russian Museum. He gained a huge popularity as the author of wonderful fairy-tales and interesting stories about the exploration of the North. In 2007 in Arkhangelsk the museum of S. Pisakhova was opened; it houses about 150 paintings.
