Russian painter and graphic artist. In 1892 - 1901 he studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts in the studio of Ilya Repin. In 1901, for the painting "Evening" got the title of the artist. One of the organizers of the New Society of Artists (1904). He participated in exhibitions of the Union of Russian Artists, of the Moscow Society of Artists, Spring exhibition in the halls of the Academy of Fine Arts. In 1909 he was awarded a gold medal at the International Art Exhibition in Munich. In 1916 he received the title of Academician. Lived in St. Petersburg, 1910 - 1936 - in Penza, where he worked as the director of the Penza Art School. In 1937 - 1939 headed the Department of painting at the Academy of Fine Arts. The author of landscapes, genre scenes and portraits. In his works inherited the traditions of Peredvizhniki. The works are presented at the State Tretyakov Gallery and other museums in Russia.
