A Russian artist, landscape painter. Born in Kharkiv. He studied painting under the guidance of D. Bezperchyy, later in the private drawing school of M. Rayevska-Ivanova. In 1885 he came to St. Petersburg. He attended drawing evenings of I. Repin. Since 1886 he studied at St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. From 1887 till 1903 he exhibited his works at the exhibitions of the Association of Traveling Art Exhibitions, belonged to the younger generation of the Itinerants. Member of the Union of Russian Artists, exhibitor of the Union "36 Artists". Since 1902 he taught at Strohanov Central School of Arts and Crafts. He repeatedly visited Italy, created a series of remarkable sketches of Venice. Small-sized landscapes of realistic direction, which felt the impact of M. Dubovsky, were popular among the art lovers and collectors. P. Tretyakov bought his works. His pictures are presented in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, in Chelyabinsk Art Gallery.
