German painter, graphic artist and sculptor. Born near the town of Boleslawiec, now Poland. He studied at the art studios of A. Vogel and J. Rauch in Berlin. For a time he lived in Ukraine and Russia, he studied the history of military costume and weapons. He created large series of paintings dedicated to the history of Zaporizhian Cossacks and the Patriotic War of 1812. The works of the master were reproduced on numerous postcards and were published in periodicals. He lived in Aachen and Oldenburg. Became famous as a painter of battle-pieces. His works are kept in the museums and private collections of Germany and Russia.
